Everything Is a Gift

"Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you, for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me." – John 17:7-8 NLT

Jesus knew His Father had given Him a specific mission, and He was sensitive to His will. He explained, “The Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does” (John 5:19).

He didn’t take advantage of His power for His own benefit but carefully focused on the Father’s will, seeking to obey Him in every situation.

This was clear the night He was betrayed. Jesus told His disciples that everything He had was a gift from the Father. Throughout His life, this gave Jesus clarity and confidence. In every situation, He simply stayed sensitive to the Father. And then Jesus always did His Father’s will.

As we face life’s challenges, we just need to follow Jesus’ example. We must recognize that everything in our lives is a gift from God – our talents and resources, our thoughts and ideas.

Remember that God has a special call for you. This call has a specific timetable – events that should take place at specific times. We are also given specific assignments for each moment and supplied with specific resources we need in those moments.

This attitude toward life should give you fulfillment and purpose. As you trust in the Father, let Him remove all fear and worry. As you rest in Him, let Him give you confidence and peace for every moment and every assignment.

Father, I acknowledge that everything I have is a gift from You. Help me to be a good steward. Use me for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
